Music House Appeal

(self-sustainable development)

By January 2008 the foundation will build a music and dance centre in Bagamoyo. Today there are no rehearsal or performance spaces in Bagamoyo despite its large population of musicians, dancers and artists who stay on after studying at the Chuo chaa Sanaa ( government run arts college). The centre will offer the workshop and performance space needed for local artists to develop their skills. The music centre will also house an instrument making workshop and small museum for the Zawose family enabling them to showcase their work for the overseas visitors who provide the essential income needed to keep the family alive and healthy.

The construction will be designed by Andy Main, the architect and builder behind the Baka Music House in Cameroon. Main builds using only locally produced building materials and timbers and employs local craftsmen and uses only traditional tools and methods where possible to ensure the traditions and designs of local communities are respected.
